Ik performance at STEIM // Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

At STEIM, during a 3-week residency in 2013, we experimented with different resources available in the STEIM facilities including our motion tracking system and body projection mapping. The main purpose of the residency was to develop a set of tools for future performances as our goal is to collect site-specific material and create a different performance in different spaces.

We experimented in creating sound and visuals through movement with the help of VVVV, SuperCollider and different motion tracking sensors and techniques.

In April 2012 myself and Elliot Woods were approached to create an application to project onto a car on a turntable, the brief expanded as the project went on, until by the end, it was to be a different car (of the same model) for every show, they wanted to be able to do multiple shows per day and the alignment was to be done by a member of the staff at the Landrover experience.
A challenging brief.
The building was finally opened in December 2012, the car takes approximately 10-15 minutes to lineup using 3 sliders and a rotatary control on an iPad, with a couple of buttons to spin the turntable around so you can check the setup.
It using 7 projection design projectors all running at 1920x1200, 3 for the back wall, 2 for the car and 2 for the floor, we also had to minimise any visible shadows, content was rendered at 4k and is all run off 1 pc.

Projection Mapping - vvvv - kinect - dance

Dance + Projection Mapping

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZ2JhlMBjbc

Programs: VVVV, Kinect, Autodesk Maya (Student Version)

Sometimes, technology has some limits. Dance also has some limitations but at the same time it gives human freedom. Art never ends and constantly gives us joy, love, sadness, curiosity, admiration and all the emotions of the world.
The dancer is asked to give his own performance in a very small space with the restrictions of the technology, but it also gives him the opportunity to express and create. He will achieve this through art and graphics that will appear due to the technology. Based on his body movements he creates his own compositions.

This project was made during an assignment at Cyprus University of Technology.

This is our video of our first ever try in vvvv. It was a weekend workshop – Mediatechnology – at the HfG Schwäbisch Gmünd.

The first task was the bridge correction between two iMacs. It had to be done over the network. We decided to use vvvv and used a UDP Client and Server model to synchronize the displaying of the image. It was very easy to use three instead of two iMacs.

After that we added a kinect. With the skeleton-data, which we got out of the kinect node, we mapped the movements of the head and the hands to the movement of the image. The gestures were made to move completely around in that 360° picture.

Greetings!

It always honors us to work with returning clients on new incarnations of annual events. The 2012 futurezone awards received a lot of positive feedback, especially for the design of the projections. So for the 2013 futurezone award we continued using the very graphic interpretation of a circuit board that is also defining the design of the award trophy itself. The show was realized using VVVV and consisted of dynamically generated animations that were flexible in timing and positioning. The location was new, so we adapted the stage set-up to be dominated by a large widescreen projection. To still reach out into the room we synchronized the ambient lighting to compliment the color effects in the presentation and to draw attention to the front when necessary.

Hi all !

For christmas, the visual agency of Paris and I are releasing a brand new project ...

Light installation of 24 LED responding to the music in real time using vvvv (for audio-analysis + OSC control) and Processing (generated animations + Syphon to Modul8).

The project was designed for the 2nd edition of Yellow Lounge party in Paris. Yellow Lounge was born in Berlin with the aim to bring classical music in night clubs and to create AV performances with DJs and VJs. A unique concept for a special night

The i-Flow is Hyundai's astonishing new concept car. Created in cooperation with BASF, it embraces a slew of super-advanced technologies and materials. It also drives the development of the new corporate form language, fluidic sculpture. On top of that it's state-of-the-art in energy efficiency. We were really flattered they chose us to work out the digital innards of this dream machine!

Hyundais European Design Center commissioned MESO with an interactive and operational dash board system. In close collaboration with the Design Team we had the pleasure to work on practically all aspects of this futuristic front end, from concept to screen/motion/Interface design to the actual engineering and implementation (and crouching underneath the steering wheel to plug in the connectors).

At the newly renovated Wein&Co flagship store and bar at the Vienna Naschmarkt a soothing generative visual video installation welcomes guests when entering.

In coordination with the interior architect and Wein&Co executives the concept of flowing particles and color-shapes was brought to live using VVVV. The system is designed to create a visual journey throughout the evening, starting lively and progressing into more soothing and calm movements towards the end of each night. The animations are generated in real time and are never the same. In the future, more and more generative pre-sets will be added to the installation.
