i would put the irc://irc.freenode.net/##vvvv link in the header, after Downloads, so people that has a client associated with the protocol can connect. Well put an IRC link on the header can be too much maybe ...
but instead of Documentation->learning, usually it is Documentation->getting started so you don't have three levels of navigation, the user that click on documentation sees Getting started->installation,...,how to use irc, ecc
well this is just an opinion, you can do sme a/b testing or just change it and see after 1 month if more people get converted to IRC ... oh my god i'm thinking too much in web analytics :)
