Reaction Diffusion

Hello vvvvers!

I bring you my first contribution which you will hopefully enjoy and find useful.

This is a simple implementation of the increasingly popular reaction diffusion behavior using a combination of two blurs, a blend amongst both blurs using a Substract mode, and a feedback loop through a FrameDelay node.

You can see this behavior being used used here:

https://vimeo.com/145251635
https://vimeo.com/176261480

Some nice features in this release are the ability to reintroduce the original texture back into the feedback loop, which enables animated textures to be used as input for some nice effects, this in combination with the ability to change between blend modes applied to the feedback loop provides a nice gamma of options to play with.

Available in both EX9 and DX11 versions.

Cheers!

An example of this behavior being used on a 3D texture can be seen here.

Credits go to tonfilm for porting the 2D algorithm to the 3D world.

The shader credit for the nice 3D bump map effect I believe goes to guest.

Cheers!

nice work!

Nice! Is that tonfilm´s shader somewhere in contributions?

ravazquez 01/09/2016 - 05:28

I am not sure where to find it. Its a basic variation from a CookTorrence Bump shader I believe guest had implemented, but am not certain. I need to ask tonfilm and will get back to you.

ravazquez 15/09/2016 - 02:50

matka, I am cleaning up tonfilm's patch and will be uploading it soon. ^^

ravazquez 16/09/2016 - 00:20

matka, you can now download the file called "Reaction Diffusion DX11 - 3D Model Texture.zip" from the "other/older revisions" section in this same page. It only works in DX11, at least for now.

The ReactionDifussion node did not change.

Credits for the shader go to tonfilm

Let me know how it goes.
