Razer Hydra

about

Yet another device which has a nice Unity3D API ported to vvvv.
May work with up to two devices and thus four controllers, but I weren't able to test that.

"The Razer Hydra consists of two controllers and a base station. It uses a weak magnetic field to detect the absolute position and orientation of the controllers with a precision, as stated by its developers, of 1 mm and 1°; it has six degrees of freedom."

Oh, and there is a great modification of the original Oculus Tuscany demo by the makers of the Hydra, Sixense:

http://sixense.com/sixensetuscanydemo
(you don't need an Oculus Rift for it - it is already great with just a Hydra, but using the Oculus makes it even more immersive)

If you have the chance, try that. It greatly shows that camera-based tracking methods aren't about to beat other methods. In this demo, you can throw stuff over your head, catch objects behind your back, grab things lying on the floor, bounce a basketball...

It works really well. Thank you. I'll test it with two Hydra (4 controllers) tomorrow.

"Button Joystick" is when you push down the joystick. So that's a real thing :P

Would it be tricky to add x64 support for this?

bjoern 05/10/2015 - 14:15

Try replacing the sixense.dll with the x64 version that comes with the SixenseUnityPlugin

everyoneishappy 06/10/2015 - 13:33

Yep, could just swap & go. Thanks m4d for providing the x64 dll & saving me having to download unity for it.
