Dear vvvv community,
For years we have been fans and supporters of the graphical programming environment vvvv – and for more than 1.5 years we have been working on a project with the code name “Prototyping Interfaces.” Today we are excited to tell you that you are now able to order our book named “Prototyping Interfaces – Interactive Sketching with vvvv.”

“Prototyping Interfaces” is a book for future “creative technologists.” As you might imagine, it's not just a book about our love – vvvv – but it's rather a collection of technological ideas put into action! As interaction designers we work somewhere between the development, concept and design of our everyday technological world. While we enjoy shaping the present, we also work toward shaping our future. In doing so we benefit from a tool called “Prototyping.” It allows us to make our ideas tangible and comprehensible.
We often spend our time on thinking about an application or talking about an interface. But what we should actually spend our time on is buidling. Therefore the answer to a question like ”How is it supposed to work?” shouldn't be “I can't tell you.” or “I cannot imagine.” It should be “I'll show you how!”
Nonetheless, technology shouldn't be understood as the key element of our world – it should be understood as a design tool that helps and inspires us. Therefore we as designers shouldn't be afraid of technology or of how to use it. We should be aware of its capabilities, its strengths, and its weaknesses. Simply put – just use it.
These were our thoughts and ideas while writing this book. Our thoughts as interaction designers and our ideas of what the world could look like tomorrow. We show it in a way you can touch, feel, and understand how it might impact the way we understand technology and interact with it in the near future.
“Prototyping Interfaces” gives you insights into the work of successful companies, art projects and the work of designers that influence our understanding of technology and its capabilities. Of course you'll also learn how to use vvvv, get to know how to use it with an Arduino Board, discover how to set up tracking environments, figure out how to control actuators, and even use different display technologies. The single tutorials and examples within these topics are didactically structured and explained: step by step. This ensures your first success will not be long in coming!
But wait – there's more. We also try to open up a new world for you. In and after each tutorial we show different ways the technology we used can be applied to create something new. With it we want to give you new ideas. We want you to think out of the box. We want you to combine everything you know and learned so far, throw it away, and then come up with something totally different. We want you to explore!
The book "Prototyping Interfaces" is not written by scientists or programmers. It is written by us, and it is for you. From designers to designers - from maker to maker!

In all our doing, you – the community, were our inspiration. You showed us how to use technology in the first place, and each and every day of the week you came up with something new. New ideas. New thoughts. New projects. New plugins. These are what inspire us. We hope this book will give some of the “vvvv spirit” we all share back to you!
Thank you all for your hard work, the ideas you share, and the help you offer. This book wouldn't have been possible if it weren't for you.
Thanks,
Your Prototyping Interfaces Team

Great job, can't wait for the English version...!
Great Book! It's really helpful!! Can't wait to get the 2nd part about shaders and Direct X ;)
finally holding the book in my hands i want to congratulate and thank the authors for going through this.
in the last years repeatedly people came up to us pitching the idea of creating a book around vvvv. i always was a bit sceptical as to if a book would be the right medium for vvvv and i probably kind of discouraged people to take further action.
browsing through the result i clearly see its beauty and value it adds to vvvv offering an entrypoint to a whole new group of people. so thanks to everyone involved for ignoring my advice.
now everyone go buy it!
@joreg: thank you so much for this comment.
