Who are you?

I am Westbam, born in 1978, living in the Netherlands, working for a small dutch company, Westhof Licht Geluid Beeld that sells/rents light and sound devices for bigger and smaller parties.

I always had great interest in using DMX with my PC, and using visuals on live events. So when I found out about vvvv I was sold...

The one responsible for the vvvv video tutorials on youtube, is also me.

Rico's Is Open!!

In centre off the dutch city IJmuiden, we have build the first 100% vvvv controlled club, named Rico's. Although the size is not impressive, the high-tech level is.

Music is played using 2 Pioneer DVJ-X1's the video mixer, an Edirol V4, is beeing controlled over MIDI via vvvv. The video is shown over 4 massive LCD screens located in the club, these screens are distributed via a Kramer VP-8x8 8x8 RGBHV Matrix Switcher, wich ofcours is controlled by vvvv, using RS232 to give us the full controll over these creens.

When the DJ is playing a CD in stead off a video, we also patched some eyecandy and there is an option to show party pictures. Offcours the pictures are vvvv style, and we all know the beauty off that. Selecting the folders that contain the pictures to be displayed and also some short text messages can be set using a normal webbrowser on any computer in the network.

We have build our own massive LEDWall, with 60x6 tiles. This LEDwall is our own design, and contains more than 2000 Red, Green and Blue (RGB) LED's. All individual tiles are controlled using 3 channels off DMX, making this monster using 1080 dmx channels, and that is 3 universes off Artnet!!

Because the venue isn't big enough to house a seperate light operator, the DJ is the person that controlles the lights. Since the DJ is also playing his music, the light controlles should be made as easy as possible. Together with the good people from Meso's, myself, Sanch and Kalle, we build our own touchscreen based interface.

Here the DJ can choose from different light settings (chases) that he can start with a push on one off the 20 buttons. He can also sellect the type off music he is playing, so the light settings will fit with the music style. The lights consists off 8 Robe clubscanns and some anolis Pars.

So, because everything can be RGB controlled, it is easy to press 1 button and set the entire club in 1 color, and that is INCLUDING the screens.

My first project was done with Catweasel, I wanted to duplicate the Philips Ambilight effect. Actualy, Catweasel made it, I just observed and learned from it. Now I can set up some LED lights next to a beamer screen, so the whole room will light up in the colors that are displayed on the screen.

My current project is going to be a bit bigger and way more ambitious. I am going to build my very own Fool Proof LJ System.
