(how) is it possible to delete links and nodes via setpatch?
Is there a certain message I can send to vvvv to achieve this?

put an attribute named “deleteme” or “deletemedontask” in your node or link tag. the value of that attribute doesn’t matter.

ok. it only works if the tag does not contain any other child elements.
