Search in Files (on Windows 7)

feature request: if you use explorer’s search bar in windows 7 it also looks for your term in text files. although v4p is xml text, w7 doesn’t search them (index them) as they have to be registered first or something. quick search test for node names resulted in loads of finds in the ~.xml backups, but not in their correspsonding v4ps. xml is registered by default i guess.

if anybody knows how to enable this, let us know. didn’t find anything useful on a quick google.

Here’s a link describing the procedure by hand:
How to Add or Remove a File Type from the Windows 7 Index
This could be a short-time fix for rrrr.

But of course for general use you would need some registry manipulation. And I found a directory in the registry that looks interesting, but I haven’t found any relevant entries yet:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Search\ et.al.
and more specifically:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Search\Gather\Windows\SystemIndex\Extensions

Maybe you can find something…
