3D mapping, new to vvvv

Dear all,

I am new to vvvv i followed the tutorials (still following them in fact),
The reason i want to learn it is because i have a 3Dmapping project,

now i am willing to learn but i need some tutorials so i can reach my goal !

i prefer writing tutorials because we have a terrible internet connection in my country ! !

please help ! 1

and thanks again ! !

have you seen this one?: how-to-project-on-3d-geometry

and of course there is enough here: documentation

Thank you man ! !

I have some questions might seem silly to some but it is a matter of perspective :)

  1. if i created the content in 3dsmax can i import ?
  2. does it have a high resolution limit ? how can i link it to projectors ?
  3. can i use it with hipotyser /
  4. how can i map in fact ! where do i create the content ? where do i use vvvv ?

if anyone can give me an overall idea so i can understand the process ! ! !

Thanks again guys ! !

hey and welcome
so the first step is… take a deep breath…

about #4:
Now open the patch I ve attached it s a starting point for the first testings. It should be self explanatory, you just need a box and a projector.

Simone

cubo.rar (2.6 kB)

… and about #1 if you can export in .x the you are all setup, although I have never tried wit 3dMax. Eventually you may be able to export as .obj then import in Blender then export as .x (look for the proper plugin… )

I don t understand #2 and I don t know the app mentioned in #3

concerning #1 see: howto prepare x-files

oh thank you guys !

u make some one feel at home ! !

U r so nice ! !

I will do some work on my own with the thigns you provided and then ask questions ! !

thank you again !

I am progressing and getting addicted ! !

Now some questions ! !

  1. I downloaded the projection mapping_2projectorssetup.zip from the website and i understand how it works but the question is if i want to project on the 3d shape (.x file) how can i input the video ? what i mean is if i want to make a mapping of this building in real life how can i use vvvv? how can i make the projector in the scene project my 3d contents ?

please help 1 ! !

I don t completely understand your question, but whenever you ll have a 3D model of your real object, you would just send the xfile to a shader where you could add light effects or apply textures, etc.
It s worth remembering that often, since a facade can be just flat, you ll find it easier to make a 2D creation and control the distortion with homography. Small details can be fixed in situ.
Useless to say that the mesh/3D approach is the one giving you mo re possibilities. Remember to add a laser distance measurement on the material list ;)

WE will be laser mapping the whole area ;)

I ll try to ask again my question :

  1. i am trying to replace the hfgpappmodell.X in the root folder of the projectionmapping_2projection with another mesh i created in 3dsmax but i cant get any visualization of it in the rendering windows…

  2. Say i want to use vvvv to project on the building how can i make the projectors project a video ? i dont know if im clear but i need to know how this software can be used to make a projection mapping ? ?

help !!

1- how did yo uget the .x file? Have you read here http://vvvv.org/documentation/howto-prepare-x-files

2- usually you project videos with
FileStreamer->VideoTexture->Shader<-Xfile
probably you ll need to fix the Texture Coordinates, but it depends a lot on what you actually want to do

i want to video mappppp :)projection on a building,

Be more specific, I don t really get it. You want to send a video onto a building?
Please explain what you want to achieve, don t give anything for assumed.

i want to make a building projection ! how can i do it ? is there any detailed tutorial ?

io i worship you for being helpful 1!

… well not really, it s a huge matter and many different techniques, if you stick to the example I ve sent you and learn how to map a simple box with one projector, you ll be one step ahead…

np, I am just paying back

heheheh i liked the im just paying back !

hope one day ill payback ! !

thank you man ! ! i didnt quite understood how to work with your example ! !

can you send a to do list if it is possible so i can reach the goal ?

thank you yalla go ahead and payback (yalla = come on in arabic )

yalla!

ok find yourself a box with sharp edges (not a pillow I mean…) place the projector so that its beam can cover the box, possibly place the box so that a vertical edge is facing the projector, so to say try to cover three faces with the the projector s beam. Now open the patch and fiddle with the 2 Transform 3D nodes, so that you can recreate the real situation in the “monitor” renderer (of course the other renderer goes fullscreen to the projector).
Remember also to input the proper values in the Projector node, details on your projector’s manual.
Have fun

EDIT: just to make it clear, your goal is to fit the projection of the virtual box onto the real box
