Tracking silhuette

Hello,
what is the best way to track human silhouette for interactive screen installation like this:

I mean if i use Contour node it also tracks visuals, so i get wrong results,
If i use DetectObject it probably wont let me do any hand-graphics interaction. I am wrong? Are there any openCV algorithms which let me grab complicated body movements for a “contemporary dance” performance?

to avoid tracking the visuals you use the old infrared trick.

use a near-IR sensitive camera with a daylight filter so everything below 780nm gets cut out…and thats where your projection light is. to support the contrast , use some ir light …either on the dancer or light up the screen with IR-light from behind.

read this here: good description and some hardware tips

thanx a lot, i have to buy those ir-lamps and tweak.

Oh this reminds me on trying this goggle thing. Ive got this chinese glasses… Keep on, next sunny day…

@jimmi

be careful, some of the pro IR spots have a pulse circuit, like a strob effect. its implemented to save LED lifetime and electricity. for tracking purposes its bad because it makes the light flicker or dimming up and down.

DON’T!
The eye don’t have any reflex against bright IR light, not does it feel pain. You you will notice your burnt eyes the next time you look at a white paper.

Im in the process of reasearching a similar project, A for the infared source were just using a fresnell with the relevant gel and hevy frost. Nice and easy!
