Proposal about a big vvvv project in Italy

Hello everybody
My name is Igor Renzetti and I’m from Italy.
I’m writing here because I’d like to propose to the vvvv community a project about vvvv.
I work with an organizzation called Semintesta in Frascati ( a town near Rome) where we organize cultural projects about visual arts, music, theatre and cinema.

Every September, from 9 years, we make a big art festival called Frammenti.
This festival is a big moment where we program musical concerts, theatral performances, art installations during a week full of events.

The festival takes part in multiple places in the town ( it ends entirely in the beginning of November) and one of the locations is a beautiful public park where we make the biggest shows like concerts.
In this palce we build up a space where people comes to see concerts, theatral performances, art installations, public meetings with artists, specialists, writers.

Here you can see some info about the current edition of the festival, the site is in italian…:

and here about the past editions:

(sorry but we are building up our Joomla site and it isn’t yet complete)

The festival will take place in the park (that is called Villa Sciarra) from 31 august till 8 september.
This year we are thematically working around the theory of Zygmunt Bauman about the “liquid world”

Bauman defines liquid the society in which everyones’ ways to act are modified still before to consolidate in habits and procedures.
The liquid life is not in a position to conserve it’s own form, since the individuals cannot realize their own result in long-lasting assets: in a moment the activities are translate in passivity.
Life in the liquid society can’t be stopped. It has to modernize or perish.
Pushed from the fear of expiration, the waste disposal industry assumes a dominant role within social economy.
This that must make is to run in order to remain to the same place.

Frammenti 09 leaving exactly from “the liquid” theories of Bauman has to be a space to discuss and imagine possible alternatives to the liquid drift in which the total world seems falling.
For us the only way in order to face an oligarchical liquid world as that one described from Bauman is to succeed to acquire abilities and competences that concur to adapt everyone to the change, without having necessarily to endure it, but seeing in it an opportunity in a position to improving eveyone’s social condition.

This was to describe the theme of this year’s edition.

I’m a visual artist and I have knew about vvvv from a friend of mine some times ago.
Thinking about the theme of the festival I imagined to ask the community a collaboration if someone would be interested to.
The huge potential of the vvvv software is perfect to let everyone see the liquid world with their own’s eyes.

I’ve imagined to build up a big video interactive installation in the park, where everyone that comes to the festival, finds another space in the video installation, where the meaning of liquid changing world becomes visual, and changes witn the changes that are produced in the solid space.

But this visualizing moment of the liquid world is produced by the changing of the ways of interaction with the installations, making the installation change quite continuosly because it has not to be made from only one artist, but it could be wonderfull if more than one artist of the vvvv community is able to upload in it a vvvv patch, that uses the technical platform in the park and interacts differently with the visitors of the space.

Basically I’m wondering to build up in the park a system of one or two digital-projectors, a computer running vvvv, and some interaction peripherals like sound sensors and cameras, the system has to be connected to the internet and be able to accept outcoming vvvv patches.

The patches could be developed by some of the artists that are from the vvvv community, involving them from our websites and more, explaining them about the theme and how to build up a vvvv patch able to work with the platform in the park.
Then they could develop their patch and remotely interact with the space in Frascati.
Every person that comes to see the festival, could experience a real space where the change is continuos and total, in particular because every patch itself is interactive and designed to be so, and also the patches are changing, because every single patch is designed by a different person, and I think it could be veary meaningfull about liquidity.
Also we could let know a lot of people about vvvv.

I think that some steps are necessary to develop an idea like this:

  • To plan and build up the platform, acting as a server, accepting connections from remote and running continuosly vvvv, with the connected peripherals and able to switch between vvvv patches uploaded in it
  • To involve as many artists as possible to join the project and develop a patch about our liquid world (promoting the project in visual artists communities and here in the vvvv forum.
  • And then make the platform usable for the public

Me and my organization could be able to build the all the technical aspects of the server, projectors and so on.

If someone wants more informations about the festival and it’s whole project, the organization (wich is a cultural association) and so on I will give that to you
I’d like to build up the project together with the community about the concept, the platform and all the aspects to realize a thing like that.

If someone is very interested to partecipate in the project please let me know as soon as possible, and when there will be an active group we can start working in building it.

I know that my english is not so good, but I hope it was clear .

I very hope that someone could like this project and we can discuss about the developing of an istallation like this,
I think it could be great for everyone of us.

Greets to all

@kalle

argh, kalle, you are right, no userpage. Not yet, but i promise, when this very full period will end, i build one :))))
anyway, the project is very interesting, and i sended a mail to igor. i’m very interested about this project, another nice way to grow up the community ;)

Sounds great! As soon as I have some time i’ll check the links out. I’ll be sure to follow this project, it’s a great idea.
