Capture cards

Hi everyone

I am about to invest in my first capture card to be used with vvvv. And as always I like to check out what is out there. I know of this list but it seems pretty outdated considering the massive number of recent capture devices.

An updated version of this list would be of great help when deciding which one to get.

One aspect that is important to me is the latency when used with vvvv, I know it will also depend on the system setup. but such info could give a hint on the differences between cards.

Also in the case of HDMI capture cards which version of HDMI does it support.

Right now I am considering a blackmagic intensity pro card. What are your experiences with this card, more specifically when using it to capture from a second computer outputting through a DVI2HDMI adaptor.

Cheers

Sune

note:
My wish for getting a good quality input into vvvv is that I lately have experienced more and more often a wish to jam when performing visuals. Jamming is not easy when moving past SD and into multiple edgeblended and irregular projections. therefore an input would enable live collaborations between VJ’s in this case latency is critical and therefore interesting when collaborating.

blackmagic intensity seem to be fine cards from what i hear, but it may be worthwhile to look into/wait for the matrox MXO2 mini

Hello,

With the Black Magic even under 2.xx drivers, we still had troubles when using HD input with vvvv

For capturing external DVI-signals i have very good experiences using the PCIe DVI-capture-card Datapath Vision RGB E1Datapath Vision RGB E1.
Image quality is perfect and also latency is pretty good.
Possible framerates of course depend on the resolution of the captured signal and performance of your system.
(Capturing standard XGA into vvvv works with 60fps and more)

These current PCIe-cards are much better then the old standard PCI versions.

I have looked into other options like the matrox, but I like the intensity for its price, and I need it for a project now.

I will try it out, the drivers have reached version 3.2 and black magic states that they have improved stability.
So it is worth a try. I will post my findings here.

so, does the matrox mxo mini work with vvvv?
anyone tried it yet?

How did you get on with the Black magic card? Any luck capturing HD DVI signals?

Blackmagic Intensity works fine capturing HDMI signals, 1080p 30fps
