Help for superlite OS?

Hello folks.

Near new to VVVV, since summer 2014 when i was hill, stuck at bed. In this recurring case, my survival device is a MacBook pro mid-2010 (core2duo), with El captain + bootcamp, 8Go Ram, 120Go Samsung SSD.

The problem is that Win7 is overbloating my fan, and MBP is superhot (even with SSD). Where El Captain is so smooth and fresh…

So I ran into the OS “slipstreaming” (reducing OS size by throwing up unused OS componments). So it is possible to run a legit Windows 7 650Mo iso, taking 2Go on disk and 350-500Mo to load on RAM. Yeah.

But I have problems with this. I have to test and make some choice, because in order to make it work, i have to slipstream, make an iso, test on Virtualbox with VVVV, and then install on bootcamp with VVVV. It’s a amount of work and testing. I’m working on it from days.

Prob N°1 is i have to decide wich of 32vs64, DX9vsDX11, SP1 or not SP1.
This might be usual questions but cannot find big answer in the forum.
The main point is VVVV_64 is missing numerous nodes, so how can i rely to it?
And i don’t know the pros/cons between dx9/dx11.

I know i can run VVVV_32 on OS_64, but can i open and edit a 32bit_patch on VVVV_64? Because: my main desktop is a powerfull UC on Windows 10 and i would like to work with also…

Problem N°2 is after 4 or 5 different OS slipstreaming test, i’m not able to run correctly VVVV in W7 Virtualbox (but can do it running in slistreamed W10 Virtualbox). The main problem is that Renderer does not show up!
I also sometimes receive the error “unknown software exception (0xc0000409) occurred in the application at location 0xf47d1fbb” (not sure about the last 0x…).

I know it is a lot of stuff, but i will really appreciate to run VVVV smoothly on my two PCs with a coherent workflow.

Any help will be soooooo much appreciated.
Thanks for all.

can’t help u anything with slipstreaming
vvvv uses quite a few stuff in the system
u can try Renderer TTY and /logstartup so u might find somethig like an error code
the 64 bit version supports 99% of crap unless it’s freeframe witch doesn’t make sense to use in 2016. And yes u can edit 32 bits patches on 64 bits…

Thanks Antokhio.

BTW, new try with W7homepremiumSP1x64 just little standard slipstreamed (only garbage data like languages, printer and modem drivers and so on, + disabling indexing, search “natural language”, XPS, …) so simple basic tweaks and tricks, and no renderer at all.

Testing with the very first start_with_demo.bat, no spaceinvaders show up and i get this, on a very fresh "vvvv0nly Win7 install in VirtualBox :

i guess it won’t help, manipulating your OS. you can’t compare OSX and windows on a MBP. OSX uses the MBP hardware in a much more efficient way. While windows doesn’t know much about the subtleties of power management, used by OSX.

one simple example is the graphicscard. OSX can switch between the intel GPU and dedicated GPU seamlessly. windows on the other hand uses the dedicated chip all the time.

removing windows components won’t add the OSX power management. i can recommend installing windows 10 and the latest drivers. it might get a little better. but using vvvv will always eat up as much performance as you have and you end up with a hot machine anyway.

I think vvvv just always pushes your hardware hard and makes things hot, you could try using mainloop to restrict the frame rate, but in my experience, the fans always go full speed when you use vvvv for any length of time, its always running, and always processing…

Yes. I heard. Thanks.

The fact is W7 is bloating alone with nothing running on. But specialy in bootcamp. Not so much with a “windowed” drive on MBP.
I’ve search a lot about, made numerous instal w/o selectives updates…
Since my first computer in 1998 i’ve always found Windows full of regular ésoteric glitchs and bumps and had tons of problems with, debuging much more than produce (music, vidéo, website). Better to have one PC for each task.

Sorry i absolutely don’t want to make the apple fanboy. That is my one and only experience with lots of hardware in various working environments. I’ve seen lots of guys like me also.

BTW i’ve sliped W10 today and, oh boy, vvvv is working smoothly at first launch (in virtualbox).
Iso is 3.3Go, taking 8Go installed and 750Mo RAM. Better than nthing.

So far so good, have to test the “pumping fan face”.
Will try on bootcamp tonight.

Edit : oh c’mon, i remember running OSX on standard computers ('kintosh) much more easily than vice versa with perfs and stability egal to standard apple devices. That a fact.

Works for OSX & Windows

I used to own a macbook pro running bootcamp with Windows 10, fans were always at 100% and the machine ran much hotter than using MacOS but it was not really vvvv related, the whole win OS ran that way.

After a few years of running like ths I found no major issues but in the end I did move to a PC. Maybe its not really an issue?
