New user with question

Hello. I have been interested in vvvv along with Processing, Nodebox, chuck, and other software for close to a year but finally started to learn all this on my own. Not knowing a THING about computer programming is a MAJOR PAIN but I’m trying to hang in there. The fact that Processing utilizes Java-style scripting and OpenGL for Nodebox strictly being coded in a Python format is enough to make anybody with my level of computer knowledge want to quit alone.

But I digress, this is not about either, this is about Quad V here.

BEFORE I start getting links to tutorials and such I’m going to let you know that I KNOW WHERE THE TUTS ARE SO SAVE YOUR BREATH. I’ll more than likely view the video ones to give me a better overstanding on how things operate but I’m the kind of person that needs a project that I can relate to in order for me to learn better and in this instance I’m planning on using Quad V for just that–audio/video interaction for starters. I want to know how can I generate some graphics and sync them with music? If there’s a few tuts that specifically ask for that as well as some video source codes to help me along the way that would be more than sufficient. Thank you for your time and patience.****

Hallo and Welcome.

Since I am the one that made the video tutorials, I will not point you to them ;) But be sure to check tut 24 and 25, something very easy and sound reactive. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kp32U_Ov_tM

In the latest vvvv version, we have a folder with demo patches, called girlpower and in there is a folder called “The Next Generation” and in there, there are like 24 demo patches about audio.

Now, for the visual part, as a total beginner, you can have a lot off fun and cool results just by playing with quads and transforms, and some spread generators (linearspread, circulairspread, randomspread… etc…).

Than color them, and put a filetexture on it, so you can make the quad look like anything you can make in photoshop or download from google image search.

After you played around, you will understand a bit better the awesome power of vvvv and come up with something brilliant yourself.

And whenever you are stuck, just post a specific question, with example patch and I am sure some user will post a clever solution.

Also, just add all of us to your Skype, so you can ask questions and help, most of us are nice and helpful. skype

Niiiiiiiiiiice…I’ll definitely check that out very soon. Thanks for the info as well as the skype link. I didn’t think there would be 24/7 tutoring or troubleshooting if feasible but that’s so cool. That’s the only way the community will work is with communication–in this case the art/music/programming community.

Since I’m pretty new to vvvv/4v/v4/whatevvvver I can honestly say, after learning the basics while sitting next to @tonfilm)) and watching him doing his magic, ((user:Westbams videos helped me to really understand the power and awesomeness of spreads and everything that has to do with it (e.g. cross, Stallone, etc.).

For music reactive stuff look at mentioned chapters of Westbams videos and the helppatch for FFT

I attach a simple Audio Analyzer I made when I played around with FFT. Just open an audio file in the top left corner and the Animation should start. Hope it helps you… If not contact me ;)

Ok I haven’t been on here in awhile due to alot of stuff happening in my life (moving, ending a bad relationship, finding a job, ect). Looks like I got more info and references to use. Thanks alot, I’m going to peep this stuff and see what’s poppin’ here. I can’t make any fractal music videos at the moment because rendering takes alot of time and space on my hard drives and until I can afford a new external HD for more space I’ll start learning this stuff FINALLY.

1nce again thank you all for your help and patience.

that’s good news, nice to have you back! :)

vvvv can definitely substitute a bad relationship, trust me!

…and break good ones.

Ok I finally got things installed and now have a few questions:

-How do I install fonts into the software? (just downloaded the video effects and composing zip file at the behest of Tebjan Halm)

-How does the options in the Next Generation folder in the girl power folder work, such as un4seen plugins?

-How do I import patches such as lecloneur’s stuff and add it to music?

as you can see I have alot of questions and am lost. I’ve seen some tutorials but am trying to put them to practice with my own ideas and projects.

hey from a cybergeek (?!) point of view i would say

  • fonts are just the ones you install in winodws, go to system settings -> font

  • cannot find what you mean, specify please

  • the old but save way is to create folders in your vvvv version called Modules, Effects and Plugins where you put the stuff that you find usefull and that you want to appear in your node list.
But thats only for realy adding something to your library.
Launching contributions should be straight forward by just starting the root patch in the folder that you downloaded

Cheers.

I have them in their separate folders, the patches that is. You’re saying to compile all of them and make a new folder called Modules, Effects, and Plugins? That would make things much easier and less cluttered.

So with the fonts I install it into my computer files and the program will locate them when I need them, like for this certain video effects and composition patch? Sounds easy enough.

Sorry for the confusion on the 2nd question. Go to the folder with the software in them including the launch icon and the girlpower folder will be there, then The Next Generation folder inside that one…

wait, sorry about that, I gotta speak in coding terms:

Program folder > girlpower > The Next Generation > Audio.

In there is a bunch of patches with descriptions in them, in this case I clicked on the 15th patch _Effects_Bass. I think when I clicked on the 1st or 2nd patch it mentioned this as well.

Then again I’m afraid I might be getting a bit ahead of myself here…

I can’t believe that I forgot to post this, the music video completed:

unfortunately I didn’t win the contest but I’m still happy and proud of how this came out. I’d like to thank madmixx, Westbam, and Urbankind for their assistance and advice, they were very helpful and patient with me.

Hello again to all vvvv enthusiasts

Started with vvvv on 8.3.2014 - very new, i know. Since i love music (musician) i´ve got a music visualizer in my brain. I dont need psycedelic drugs to “see” music in its parts - without using my intellect - while dancing i can see the moving bass line, the melody line and so on… So its a great passion to me bringing this on a monitor (my canvas) - in the short meantime starting with vvvv and now i found out a lot of ways bringing beats, basses and highs to things that are moving (i am still exploring the unusal) - although i still dont know up to now how to use the vertex buffer node (love 3d)… Thank you mr.westbam - you are really a good teacher - for teaching the basics and specially for the audioreactive rope - a great inspiration to me for exploring - before i found vvvv i thougt it would be enough bringing the sound “anyway” to the system - no plan about the method. Ok, i´m fascinated from particles and p.systems. Beautyful and frightening forms are possible. But for understanding the F1 patches (to use them) i miss a lot of information - dottores “tutorial” is wicked to me - i think he is really a dottore in informatics - and i am an autodidact (started with c 25 jears ago to program my own fractal generator). Some of you may be thinking “first you have to learn ALL the basics” - but this is not the way i´m learning - i love the parallel way and all time in my live (58 jears on earth) it was working.
Halfly comprehended how the audio reactive rope is working i was searching for a more complex basic material and i found it in the addon pack / transform /sphere bundle - a lttle bit megalomanic for a newbee / the request “bang me” and “spread me here” inside the help patch i overlooked and spreaded in a way only a newbee can do. Next problem: how to make the hunderets of spreaded tangents to pulse to the beat… every method brought my " fireflower" to move like charlie chaplin… painful movements for my big project. In the meantime she (SHE - i could not sleep and was thinking about her all the time) is highly audio reactive - but very different from the method i wanted to use. Highs make her build crystals and basses i converted in vectors.

Leaning a lot + a little bit proud - proj. resting but never finished(!)
MY QUESTION: does anybody be a darling and show me a patch of an “easy” particle visualizer (no spray emitter please(!) - let him pulse to the beat is easy - using the velocity field, creating stabile FORMS and control them is what i´m searching for).
No problem if it takes time to analyze the patch - i know how to use vectors and about mathematical theorie of attractors - but i´m a conceptual thinking person (vvvv!!) Please, please: live is short :-)) THANK YOU to anybody who is thinking about my suggestion and whish.
