The German Football Globe has a lightsculpture inside with 510 Cold Cathod Tubes.

Each of those tubes is separate dimmable.

Dimmable means that 35% dimming lights only 35% of the length of that tube like demonstrated in this video

A football is a polyhedron from 20 hexagons and 12 pentagons.

Imagine overlapping circles made from 6 or 5 segments surrounding each of those polygons.

Imagine 3 layers of those balls nested inside each other.

Each 9 Tubes have been fixed to a pole.

Each of those 60 poles also carries 9 (some 6) electronic ballasts and a special interface converting DMX to a proprietary protocol.

Each pole has a seperate adress and an inconvertible place inside the ball.

The poles also are differing in the directions of power- and data in/outlets---

some vvvv-patches are controlling this installation and also rendering a 3D simulation of this.

Time for the first setup (only a test) in cologne was very short.

So only the patching of the adresses and function of the tubes could be checked.

The whole content programming of the lights was done with the simulation and was sent to Tokyo via email.{SPLIT}
