Short excerpts of each chapter, recorded at the Kubus at ZKM Karlsruhe.

The audiovisual performance LGM#2 is based on an extensive database of pulsars and neutron stars from the Australian National Telescope Facility. Exploring the rhythms and wavelengths of these rotating sources of radio emission for aesthetic patterns and harmonies, the extremely fast pulses and strong gamma rays of these exotic celestial bodies are transformed into clicks, sine waves and light. The minimalistic multi-channel piece stringently follows the specifications of the currently known 2659 pulsars. When discovered in 1967, the precision and apparent artificiality of the received signal led the researchers to nickname the unknown phenomenon LGM-1, for “little green men”. Over three movements, Quadrature's interpretation builds an increasingly dense space of sound and light in honor of these metronomes of the universe.

In collaboration with soundartist Kerim Karaoglu.

Documentation of an audiovisual performance for radio telescope, artificial intelligence and self-playing organ.

Located outside of the venue, the radio telescope listens to the vastness of space. The received electromagnetic waves are transferred to the audible frequency range. Electronic noises, hums and beeps fill the air. An algorithm transcribes the noise of the universe into midi tones, which are reproduced by the organ with the help of an electronic apparatus. During the play various selection and filtering methods (e.g. specific artificial intelligences) are applied in a determined order, serving as a kind of score and dividing the piece into three main chapters. The artists on stage have a set of parameters available to respond live to the incoming signals, using both the radio telescope and the AI as musical instruments. On the floating canvas above the stage, the sounds turn into abstract images, into a visual representation of what is heard.
Little by little, neural networks take control over the organ and seek for known harmonies in these non-worldly noises, for the smallest traces of human music. In the last chapter, ideas of melodies evolve as the artificial intelligence begins to fantasize about familiar tunes in these archaic sounds from outer space.

In collaboration with Christian Losert.

Thanks to Sebastian Müllauer for the telescope and Klaus Holzapfel for his Orgamat.

In the era of Big Data, we like to be watched and be safe at the same time. We share our lives on social media and watch other people's lives. Amnesia is an interactive artwork about people who forget their true identity on social media and become addicted to data and algorithms.

For the electric concept car “Imagine by Kia”, we developed the technology for a dashboard made up of 21 individual high definition screens. First revealed at the Geneva International Motor Show 2019, this experiment in form and technology was arguably the eye-catching highlight of the vehicle and sparked great media interest.

Nico Tang - 《號外》雜誌主編
CY Leo - 口琴家,音樂家

.
Shuffle Reality — Cities of Memories, Cities of Fabrications
.
“No matter how much we are willing to move forward to come across different matters, and to stay en route; on the other hand, we have a greater desire to stop and find familiar, friendly faces. To stay with them, where we find the space to live and work for ourselves.”
.
Everyone of us is a moving city formed with facets of memories, all of which coming together becomes a unique city of memories. Perhaps we are all like Yesi, putting together our very own fabricated cities based on the different pieces of memories. People nowadays have memories consist of the virtual world, and they manoeuvre or get lost at the blurred line between reality and virtuality. Shuffle Reality — a city of memories, a city of virtuality is inspired by the same fictional title of Yesi, which invites three individuals from different disciplines: media, photography, and music, to roam into their memory facets of Hong Kong. The process of which could be seen and heard would be recorded on mobile digital devices: the high and low waves of sounds in the city craft the structure of space, while the images documented makes the main visual source. The three different audio-visual spaces coming together present a conversation between three generations of people and the cities of memories.
.
Three Flaneur:
Wing Shya - Photographer
Nico Tang - Chief Editor of “City Magazine”
CY Leo- Harmonicist, Musician
