the BOUNDARY is an Interactive Installation designed and developed by Adobe Creative Resident Takuma Nakata, in collaboration with Amelie Satzger.

BOUNDARY works by stepping in to the stage. The system detects the silhouette of the audience and uses its boundary to generate a graphic to project on the huge tent screen. The first player will be converted to a spline based character by using their inner boundary, 2nd and 3rd player with be converted to a connected crystal using their outer boundary, and the 4th to 6th player will be projected with their raw silhouette. Each graphical characters were designed to represent important facts for creativity, such as inner passion, connection, and yourself.

This specific version of the installation was shown at Adobe MAX BASH 2019.

Concept

In the context of social media, visual recognition of ourselves as self-directed behaviour and at the same time as a remnant of evolutionary psychology, concludes a narcissistic capitulation of one's survival. Panoptic vision as a power mechanism requires that we observe and be observed and continually comparing ourselves to others, creating an imposter homogeneity. Goebbels stated, "If you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear”. The political system, with the moral alibi of “protecting the citizen from potential violations”, contemns the individual to a new form of surveillance similar to the panoptic control system proposed by Jeremy Bentham. Through the acceleration of overall internet traffic and the so on culture of "I have nothing to hide", individual rights cease to exist. Thus, a “pro” security form emerges, seeming progressive, but in fact is the opposite.

projection

Materializing the idea

The installation is being consisted by a booth with a mounted mirror and a monitor (right and left side respectively), both are putted in round shaped frames resembling the well known social networking pages' profiles. The mirror stands for self identification and symbolizes the narcissistic aspect of us extrapolating the presence of the monitor on the other side of the booth.
Beneath the round shaped monitor (left side) there is a proximity sensor (connected to an Arduino) and an RGB camera which are both responsible for the motion detection, face recognition and capture.
When the spectator passes by and stands for a while in front of it her image will be captured so it will be revealed without her acknowledgement and few seconds after her departure to the rest of the upcoming visitors.
In order to succeed so both vvvv and VL with its amazing YOLO implementation were used in the benefit of quick recognition, storing images, checking distances and human presence as also for showing back the captured images by using a fairly simple logic.
The installation meant to be portable (rumbling) and compact in a sense that it is lightweight and everything fits in the booth without revealing any cables or the mechanism to the audience.

Gyrovagues: Wandering, marginal and undisciplined monks, outside the community and without fixed residence; they lived on the charity and hospitality of others.

Gyrovagvs. Real-time mixed media installation. Shadowed pepper’s ghost with wooden stool and sound.

Gyrovagvs inhabits precariously and dramatically on both sides of a mirror, as an intermittent thought or like-quantum game. Shadowed image without body, it could be alive as a consistent perception, or on the contrary, it could remain confined in the physical jail of an optical illusion. In any case, Gyrovagvs claims that reality -and therefore also, everything that overwhelms us- arises from the subtle mix between the fictitious and the real.

Lenaura

The trailblazing music artist, vocalist and composer Lena Platonos arrives at the Stavros Niarchos Park’s Great Lawn on Saturday 7 September for a concert that bridges the past with the present.

In the first part of the concert, the songwriter, along with Giannis Palamidas and Athena Routsi, will perform fresh versions of songs from her long-lasting career, in a music retrospective that will fill the Park with the characteristic lyricism and emotional nature of her songs. Selections from Gallop, Lepidoptera, Sun Masks and Sabotage will plunge us into Platonos’ magical, idiosyncratic, thrilling universe.

The second part features her dance project Lenaura, produced with her long-time associate, Stergios T and performed live for the first time. These songs are marked by driving dance beats, minimalist vocals and a compositional approach that eschews dance music conventions. Among them is a dance version of Tchaikovsky's “Lullaby in the Storm", interpreted by Albina Zachariadou in Russian.

Also on stage will be Cleon Antoniou, who has worked with Platonos on her album Sun Masks; the concert’s evocative visuals are designed by Constantine Nisidis.

Line-up:

Lena Platonos, vocals, piano, keyboards
Stergios T, programming, sound design, keyboards
Cleon Antoniou, keyboards, vocals

Featuring: Giannis Palamidas, Athena Routsi, Albina Zachariadou
Visuals: Constantine Nisidis

A little bit late, but better then nothing!
Link was definently absolute highlight of my summer, thanks to all people that came! It had great vibe, and I am looking forward to doing it again. Two big themes were knowledge base around VL and upcoming community meetings in form of Nodes and Link. A bit of word from joreg about what was discussed:

"I took the chance having a lot of experienced vvvv patchers around to talk about the upcoming series of tutorials i am planning to introduce vvvv gamma. In a first session we tried to get a common understanding about what constitutes good tutorials and what distinguishes them from other forms of documentation (howto, reference, explanations). Then we concluded that a structure to go forward would be preparing tutorials for 3 main categories:
• basics: all tutorials here will only use basic features like process nodes and loops
• language features: tutorials covering advanced language features like datatypes, generics. delegates,...
• developing: these should appeal to developers wanting to extend vvvv with their own nodes, writing C# or importing .NET libs
''''
In the second session we went into more details about what an initial series of "getting started" tutorials in the "basics" category should look like. Then we came to the point that that simple games should make for good tutorials and so we tried to find some that would work for the "basics" category.
''''
All in all the sessions where really fruitful and helped me a lot to bend my head around how to get this whole topic started. Many thanks to everyone involved who added their thoughts."

And Rosi:
''
As a member of the NODE festival team I was very interested in the views of the people at link on the future of our precious community gathering. The NODE team already had some ideas for possible events and link was the perfect time to share them with the vvvv community.
This was super helpful and I was amazed that nearly all participants at link took their time to share their thoughts. We came up with the idea of a Community Meetup as an Add-On to the NODE Forum for Digital Art.
We also reflected on the NODES so far (2008, 2010, 2013, 2015 and 2017) and extrapolated from there where the journey might go. These are some of the feedbacks: the hacky feeling should stay, things should be allowed to evolve on-site, the discourse outside of the vvvv bubble is important, the nerd- and the art side are equally important, Frankfurt is a good place but it could happen somewhere else, so many things happen at NODE that especially those who host workshop have a hard time grasping the whole program.
After link I felt super motivated to continue the planning and so I am happy to say that we got quite far in that last month: Be prepared for something big in April 2020!''''

there was a lot of food, discussion, tinkering, presentations, and one thing I learned is to not underestimate amount of beer consumption on vvvv related event.

It was delight, althoug a bit exhausting to do this, but well worth the effort, especially highlights like making beyond burgers and then dragging speakers to woods for super secret concert of blackwood incident. Hope we meet soon again!
