helohelo,

this is beta26 speaking. first of all thanks to all my alphatesters who found some buggers that would have annoyed you quite a bit. so be grateful and if you still find a bug, blame it on them. see? i cannot be bothered...

apart from tons of bugfixes in all of my most dirty corners which you'll only feel subconciously (if you're too lazy to read my Change Log)? there are a few things you should be aware of:

  1. changes to ioboxes
  2. relative paths into modules
  3. realtime cubemap
  4. new fx compiler
  5. startup time

as usual the addonpack is stuffed with great bytes by vvvvs regulars vux, woei and phlegma. keep it up bois! please consult the addons change log to see what they came up with.

also this time is a first for unc who makes his debut with sharing a mere ~50 (stopped counting there..) effects/modules for image manipulation. it is hard to fit into superlatives what he did in the last two months after he stumbled on karistouf's quest for easy image treatment possibilities: pure-image-treatment-question-wich-evolution-for-vvvv

TextureFX is in a way comparable to freeframeGL as it is a specification of how to prepare vvvv-modules for texture-manipulation in order to make them work together nicely. only apart from the specification it also already comes with a fairly complete implementation right in this addonpack. in the nodebrowser just check for "filter", "fx" or "unc".

this needs to go out to the world, so i prepared a little press-statment:

vvvv said
#texturefx for #vvvv by unc is one of the most extensive GPU-based, opensource image-manipulation and -analysis packages available.

see, i made this <140 characters for your tweeting pleasure. people interested herein were also interested in unc's videos on vimeo

now go ahead download, test and report your findings on the forum.

Ok, it's not exactly what you consider "news", because it has been around the internet for two days already, but:

Ta-Dah! The VVVV.js project has been launched -- now officially.

VVVV.js is an open project, which aims to bring the visual programming language to your web browser, by porting VVVV's "runtime parts" to JavaScript. This enables your web browser to run VVVV files (or VVVV XML code) on the client side.

Get the full idea at the project website http://vvvvjs.quasipartikel.at

While this sounds too good to be true, here comes the bummer: besides porting parts of VVVV's internals, all the nodes you want to use have to be ported to JavaScript as well. Having in mind, that there are hundeds of nodes for the original VVVV, this is just absurd ... right? But let's just give it a try anyway.

The project is far from being ready to use in real life, in terms of functionality as well as in terms of performance. Its further development totally depends on your help. Checkout the Github repository at

https://github.com/zauner/vvvv.js

and help porting your favourite nodes, it's not that hard.

Also visit us in the dedicated ##vvvvjs channel on irc.freenode.net!

Juhu!

Where Electric Match Box Cafe, Whitepost Lane, Hackney Wick, E9 5EN, London, United Kingdom

V4W-July13

Good day.

Its been so busy lately that I haven't even been able to look at the blog much less put something on it, so my apologies for posting this at such late notice.

Following on from the the great session fronted by Sunep(with a cameo appearance from sugokuGENKI) much of the discussion was on how images/textures could be mutated and distorted for our amusement.

So inspired by this, this night is an image-grinding experimentation night, Starting with the basics of how you get images into vvvv.

And then and I encourage you to bring your cameras (Directshow-friendly ones), image mixers, funky lens and video capture tools. By the end of the night we might try chaining all our outputs into a multi-processed feedback loop.

We'll see what happens!

Hayd

Our interactive media installation department works with VVVV but we also welcome students knowing processing, Actionscript 3 or C++.
