vvvv_45beta34

Computer Art

helo patcherpeople,

did you know that Microsoft ended support for Windows XP on April 8, 2014? Do you bother at all? Well, we do. And this is why we're releasing one last version of vvvv that blissfully runs on XP. And it is also the bestest version of vvvv ever (so far). Say helo to: 45beta34

Branching off 45beta34 from all future developments has become necessary because with VL we now need always the topofthepops .net version which is no longer available for XP. beta34 is therefore the last release in the 45-series. Next will be 50beta35 requiring .net4.6 and including VL. But more on that later.

beta34 comes mostly with bug- and performance fixes. So definitely the version you should want to use from now on.

Due to changes in the plugininterface (see changelog for details) it may be necessary to rebuild plugins for this release. So all contributors: If you have stuff that is not in the addonpack, please provide a fresh build of your contribution/pack.

Out of interest: Anyone still using XP? Please raise your hand in the comments.

And as always if you feel so inclined, we never mind a flattr:

It seems like if you want to use VL with a NON alpha version, it works by copying the VLpack from the alpha to the beta.
Anything to worry about when doing that?

joreg 21/07/2015 - 16:56

only that we'd rather recommend using VL with the alphas for now.

I've used xp two months ago on an old vaio laptop

mediadog 22/07/2015 - 19:03

Say what? I haven't been able to run versions of vvvv on XP since I think 31.2 due to the dependence on .NET 4.5! Did I miss something?

joreg 22/07/2015 - 19:15

@mediadog: as mentioned above the beta34 series is the last to depend on .net4, therefore it still runs on XP. still we've been able to write .net4.5 plugins for a while now already, see: plugins-targeting-.net-4.5 but of course those would not run on XP.

mediadog 22/07/2015 - 22:04

Well, when I run crack/setup on WinXP after 31.2, I get a red light on .NET 4.5, and the installer for it does not work as it is not supported on XP. I spend enough time fighting my tools as it is, that I'm not going to bother with something telling me right up front there's a problem!

So if these later versions can run on XP without .NET 4.5, what is the problem? There should have been some message saying what functionality would be missed - I'm not going to try something and then wonder forever after if some problem I'm having is related to that red light...

joreg 22/07/2015 - 22:08

there was indeed a little bugger in setup.exe see red-box-.net-4.5-missing.-in-win-xp but it is fixed for this release. so please give it another try.

I am intrigued by this.. "Computer Art", that you speak of.
Can you tell me more about this? I see that it might very well have a future.

@sunep

i have not tested it, but we changed the .NET framework to 4.6 two days ago, this might break the latest VL pack in older vvvversions. you could install 4.6 and hope that beta34 does not complain.

skefer 31/07/2015 - 17:38

Didn't use xp since 2007, I think it's better running 4v in win7. VL is so pretty, lovvving it.

deby 16/08/2015 - 14:02

Great to use the latest version with XP.
But not detect my keyboard and my mouse :((
Have you any idea?

joreg 16/08/2015 - 14:22

hei deby, interesting. please start a new thread in the forum about this and post a patch that does not work for you. also if you have the chance please test the same patch on a later version of windows and report if that works.

I've created a thread :
